Against a backdrop of ever increasing flood risk for many UK properties – with an extra 1.2 million of them scheduled to achieve “at risk” status by 2050 – water management components firm Hydro International has renewed a stormwater management deal with Rehau, a firm active in the building services sector.

Hydro’s Stormbloc® Optimum geocellular attenuation system provides SuDS (sustainable drainage systems) storage and infiltration in a modular storage system. In addition to helping prevent surface water flooding, the system is able to collapse and stack effectively, saving space on lorries and construction sites.

The system was introduced to the UK in 2018, and has since been installed from points as far afield North as the MACBI Community Hub in Mintlaw, Scotland, and Carbis Bay in St Ives, Cornwall.

Steve Richmond, Head of Marketing and Technical at Rehau, spoke of the need to tackle climate change, including those effects that will be felt in the not-so-distant future. “To address this effectively, technology leaders must diversify and collaborate,” he said.

The two firms have seen significant growth for the product since signing the exclusivity agreement in late 2017. And new product launches on the horizon include the modular Stormbloc® Optimum Inspect chamber in 2020.

Andy Kane, Operations Director at Hydro International, said, “At a time when civil engineers and contractors are under immense pressure to do more with less, and to do it faster, having UK stock in partnership with Rehau has helped us improve our lead times immensely. This solution has exceeded our customers’ expectations over recent years, and it is only natural that we continue to offer it.”

Hydro has over four decades of experience in delivering flow control and storage for SuDS, helping regulators, water companies, developers and contractors to deliver effective and sustainable drainage projects. The firm has supplied projects ranging from large flood alleviation schemes to stormwater drainage for residential developments. Steve said, “We are delighted to see this contract renewed. It’s been great working with such a competent and responsible partner that shares such similar environmental values, making this decision a no-brainer from our side.”
