EA have issued an official statement regarding ‘EA Gate’, after a series of allegations were made on social media on Wednesday.

The allegations centre around the FIFA 21 Ultimate Team game mode, with screenshots circulating on social media appearing to show that some special cards, including FUT Icon Moments and Team of the Year FUT 21 cards, are being offered in exchange for real-life money.

This has led to a social media movement dubbed ‘EA Gate’, with some referring to the scandal as a ‘Black Market’ within the FIFA 21 Ultimate Team game mode. Within the FUT mode, individual player cards have no monetary value, they are bought instead using virtual FIFA Coins, within the mode’s transfer market system.

Player cards can also be won by opening packs, the chances of obtaining certain cards differ depending on the pack that’s opened, these packs can be obtained using virtual FIFA Coins or FIFA Points, with the latter able to be bought for real-life currency.

An EA Spokesperson told Mirror Football that an investigation into these allegations is underway, and that swift action will be taken if improper conduct is proven, stating that this type of behaviour is unacceptable.

They have also promised an update for the community in due course.

“We are aware of the allegations currently circulating within our community related to FIFA21 Ultimate Team items,” An EA Spokesperson told Mirror Football.
